If you want to start a side hustle or two - don’t make this mistake.
The trap most people fall into is choosing side hustles that trade their time for money - meaning they’re paid hourly. So one hour (or one delivery) pays them the same amount no matter how good they are at their job, how much effort they put into it, or how much experience they have.
It’s an hourly rate and that’s it. No room for expansion or scaling over time. Capped by a glass ceiling or a corporate rate, no matter how amazing you are.
Don’t make the mistake of choosing a side hustle that trades time for money.
Examples of this are any side hustle or part-time jobs where you clock in and out and are paid by the minute. Examples are like working for Amazon, working at a grocery store, delivering meals on Door Dash, or driving for Uber or Lyft.
Jobs like those typically make close to minimum wage averaging $18/hour.
*sigh*
What can you do that’s a better side hustle? Choose one that pays you for the value you bring to the customer or client.
Freelancing is my favorite way to do this! As a freelancer, this means you don’t sign a contract to work for anyone long term. Instead you are self employed for this side hustle (or FT job like me) and you accept single projects with many brands/companies at once. For example, I typically have 10 orders going at once for 10 companies.
